Gray skies and chilly conditions didn’t dampen the enthusiasm for the chamber’s February 8th luncheon at Hampton Inn Kanab.
The chamber’s monthly lunch gatherings are open to the public, free for members, and $10 for non-members. Thank you to chamber member Honey’s Marketplace for providing a delicious spread of chicken salad croissants, fresh green salad, and seasoned French fries!
Chamber Vice President Ron Thomas welcomed about 35 attendees. New members in the last since the last luncheon included Angie Woodberry with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Iron Rock Group, Kanab Custom Meats, MotoDog LLC, Pizza Hut, and Red Rock Pack. Renewing members included Honey’s Fuel Center, Wild Thyme Café, Buddy Mail, Chandler Clarkson with ERA Utah Properties, Honey’s Marketplace, and Love Realty.
Also in attendance were Burro Flats High Desert Lodge, Cliffview Chapel, Coral Cliffs Tours, Cricket's Creations, Eagle Gate Title, ERA Realty Utah Properties, Healing Strong, Hirschi Electric, Kanab City, Kanab E-Bikes, Kane County, Mesa Design, Mortgage Mate, Mountain America, My Zion Vacation, Once Upon a Time in America Museum, Party Pooper Waste Management, Rascal Rodeo, Realty ONE Group, Stellar Vista Observatory, Taro Coffee, The Independent, Utah State University, and West Winds Ranch.
We were joined by Oscar Alba as our guest presenter. Oscar is the workforce development specialist for the Utah Department of Workforce Services (DWS). He gave an interesting presentation, starting with all of the different divisions of DWS, such as child care, housing & community development, refugee & homeless services, reminding us that DWS is much more than the "unemployment office."
Both job seekers and businesses can find resources at jobs.utah.gov. They offer online, in person, and virtual workshops about such topics as interviewing, networking, resume writing, and health relationships. Employers can sign up to participate in virtual job fairs. He also talked about intern programs and on the job training programs, targeted at particular job seeking audiences, through which employers can get reimbursed for those workers' wages.
